Zhuhai Grand Theater - TOPTIDE

Zhuhai Grand Theatre is a landmark building in Zhuhai City and the only opera house built on an island in China. Designed by Professor Chen Keshi, it started construction on April 28, 2010, with a total construction area of about 59,000 square meters and an estimated investment of about 1.08 billion yuan. The main structure was capped on December 29, 2013. 

The unique shape of Zhuhai Grand Theatre has far-reaching implications. The "Big Shell" is 90 meters high and can accommodate nearly 1600 people. It is mainly used for large-scale opera, musical, ballet, symphony, stage play, large-scale variety show and song and dance party. The 60-meter-high "Little Shell" is a 500-seat multifunctional concert hall that can host chamber music, jazz, local theatre, avant-garde theatre, experimental theatre, fashion and other performances, as well as medium-sized conferences and special events. Its design inspiration comes from the famous painting "The birth of Venus", Venus is born from the shell, and the sun and moon shell is only unique in the Pearl River Delta, which fully embodies the harmonious coexistence of nature, humanity and art.

The completion of Zhuhai Grand Theatre has added a strong cultural atmosphere to the romantic city of Zhuhai, and also provided an important platform for cultural exchanges and development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is like a bright pearl, inlaid on the coast of the South China Sea, shining with the light of art.

The ceiling of Zhuhai Grand Theatre is unique in acoustic design. The ceiling in the rear area of the auditorium is designed as an acoustically transparent ceiling, and the ceiling space above the ceiling is used to expand the acoustic volume of the auditorium, so as to obtain a longer reverberation time in the auditorium.
