Nanning Wuwei International Airport was officially completed in November 1962 and was relocated from Nanning Airport in 1958. The first phase of the expansion project was completed in 1990. The second phase of the expansion project was completed on September 25, 2014. In 2019, the renovation and expansion of T1 terminal area and the runway expansion of T2 terminal area will be started. On 19 March 2020, the construction of the second runway and Terminal 3 was approved.
